Many workers in Mauritius work long working weeks, particularly in the manufacturing and distributive trade sectors. These particular sectors tend to employ large numbers of women. Many of these women form part of young families where often both husband and wife are wage earners. The main aim of this study was to investigate current aspects of working time and the perceived viability of proposed methods of reorganization, the results of which investigation might contribute to a rationale for a systematic reorganization of working time in Mauritius.
