Being one of the oldest sectors in the history of industrial development, the textile and clothing industry is often referred to as 'traditional industry'. The garment production in Mauritius can be categorised into 2 components : one which produces mainly or exclusively for export markets and other which produces mainly or exclusively for the domestic market. The aim of this research was to evaluate the size of the clothing market in Mauritius, determine the characteristics of the garment industry in Mauritius in terms of types of products and quantity produced for the local market and identify the expressed and unexpressed needs of local consumers.
