The Mauritius Social Attitudes Survey 2002 was conducted on a random but representative sample of 1,399 adults over the age of 18 years in the Island of Mauritius. Males made up 49.5 % of the population and Females 50.5%. Because the sample was fully representative the main body of respondents was between 30 and 49 years old, with fewer respondents from the younger age groups and in the older age groups. For this study, a high percentage of the sample population of both sexes combined had an educational level that did not go beyond primary schooling and a small percentage equally represented by both Males and Female respondents had higher levels of education.
