Natural fibres of plant and animal origin are extensively used in a large variety of products such as ropes, mats, clothes, household furnishings and car interiors. Each year, around 35 million tonnes of natural fibres are harvested from a wide range of animals and plants. The aim of this study was to satisfactorily degum raw banana trunk fibres and raw pineapple leaf fibres by enzymatic digestion using pectinases for improved mechanical properties such as handle and stiffness for eventual yarn spinning.
