The effect of an imposed fixed magnetic field, with an average field strength of 40 milli tesla, was studied on both the ripening and decaying processes of green mature tomatoes (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill. Var Bibbas). Tomatoes subject to a South magnetic field ripened faster and decayed slower than those exposed to a North magnetic field and control. Longer exposure period to the South magnetic field increased the ripening rate and slowed down the decaying process of tomatoes.
