Africa, one of the continents endowed with the richest biodiversity in the world, is estimated to contain approximately 40,000–45,000 different plant species, of which about 5000 species are used medicinally in the management of diverse diseases. Its medicinal plant-based industry is a promising sector that needs to be continuously developed on all fronts to be a source of significant economic growth potential. In this quest for sustainable progress, stringent regulations regarding extract standardization, quality, and composition for reproducible results in pharmacological, toxicological, and clinical studies are warranted.
